FAQ

Straight answers to the questions everyone asks.

For intended parents

Are you a full-service agency?

No. We're a concierge matching service. We find, screen, and match, then connect you with independent attorneys, escrow, and insurance specialists. That focus is how we keep our all-in fee at $10,999.

What screening is included?

Every surrogate we present has had her medical records reviewed by a registered nurse, a psychological evaluation by a licensed psychologist, and a background check, all included in your fee. Given our own story, we won't match without them. Medical clearance still comes from your IVF clinic's physician.

How long does matching take?

It depends on your preferences and who's applying. We'd rather give you an honest range on your consultation than a promise we can't keep.

Do I need embryos before I apply?

Not to talk with us. Most clinics want embryos created, and often tested, before a transfer, so we'll help you plan your timing.

Do you work with single parents and LGBTQ+ families?

Yes. Every family is welcome at Sojourn.

What if the match doesn't work out?

If your match doesn't work out, we re-match you until we find you a surrogate, or you get your money back.

For surrogates

Does it cost anything to work with you?

Never. Intended parents pay our fee and cover the costs of your journey, including your own attorney.

How much are surrogates paid?

Compensation is agreed between you and the intended parents and written into your contract. It varies with experience and location. We'll walk you through what's typical on your first call.

Will the baby be genetically mine?

No. We only work with gestational surrogacy, where the embryo is created from the intended parents' or donors' eggs and sperm.

Why do you ask for my medical records?

Because your safety matters. Past pregnancies tell us and your doctors whether another pregnancy is a healthy choice for you.

Can I choose the family I work with?

Yes. You'll review profiles and meet families before anything is decided. A match only happens when both sides say yes.

Which states do you work in?

All US states that allow surrogacy.
